The last few weeks have been… a lot.
I’ve been on the road and in the sky—between cities, between countries—juggling assignments, battling changing weather conditions that swung between 11°C and 25°C, and trying to keep up with it all. Somewhere in the middle of that motion, I fell sick. Everything slowed down, and because I run my own pages and write my own stories, I had to hit pause, not because I didn’t want to post, but because I simply couldn’t.
Mulling over all this today gave me a new perspective. I was reminded that, at the end of the day, no one is coming to save ME. I am the one who has to fight for me, show up for me, take care of me, nurse myself back to a healed state, and get back up again.
And that brought to mind a story I once read about the Eagle and the Crow.
Of all birds, the Crow is the only one that dares to peck at an Eagle. It perches on the Eagle’s back and bites at its neck—provoking, distracting, hoping to throw the Eagle off course. But the Eagle doesn’t waste time or energy fighting back. It simply spreads its wings and flies higher. And the higher it goes, the thinner the air becomes—until the Crow can no longer breathe and falls off on its own.
That, right there, is a masterclass in self-leadership. Sometimes, the “crow” in your life isn’t even a person.
- It’s the pressure of responsibilities that keep piling up.
- It’s stress from all angles of your life.
- It’s fatigue that doesn’t seem to end.
- It’s being taken for granted.
- It’s self-doubt whispering that you’re not enough.
- It’s someone taking what rightfully belongs to you and walking away unbothered.
- It’s feeling overwhelmed by all the things you're expected to carry.
And your first instinct might be to flap wildly i.e. Fight back. Explain. Argue. Prove a point.
But here’s what this season has taught me:
Not everything needs a reaction. Not every struggle requires a fight. Sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do... is rise. Quietly.
You rise by protecting your energy.
You rise by staying focused.
You rise by refusing to lower yourself to battles that don’t deserve you.
You rise by simply outgrowing the things that used to shake you.
So as we begin August, that’s my word: Rise.
No matter what’s trying to cling to your back—doubt, pressure, criticism, fear, betrayal—don’t waste your strength flapping. Instead, Elevate yourself. And when you do, anything that cannot survive where you’re going… will fall away.
Now, I know this is not the official #StorySaturday return. This is just me saying I’m back. And next Saturday, we resume both Story Saturday and the Saturday Shelfie series. I have a book Authored by a local writer that you don't want to miss.
Until then, stay RISING.
