Lately, I’ve found myself feeling misunderstood—even by those closest to me. It’s not just frustrating; it’s isolating. These moments of disconnect make you question everything: “Am I communicating poorly? Are they just not listening? Or is it something deeper?”

That’s exactly why I picked up Surrounded by Idiots by Thomas Erikson for this week’s #SaturdayShelfie. And no, the title (or the cover!) has nothing to do with the people around me—though I’ll admit it caught my eye and gave me a good laugh.

This book isn’t about blaming others; it’s about understanding. It looks at the different ways people think, communicate, and interact, showing how we can bridge the gaps that often lead to frustration, misunderstanding, and, ultimately, escalating to strained or broken relationships.
