Yesterday, I shared a dream that has taken 13 to happen. It came with years of silence, setbacks, and doubt—but I kept the dream alive, kept preparing, and when the opportunity finally came, it all made sense.
That’s why today’s book is so personal.
I’ve read Shoe Dog many times before, but after witnessing my own long-awaited dream come to life, I felt a deep pull to go back and reread it. And let me tell you—it hit different this time.
Phil Knight, the founder of Nike, did something most people would call crazy: after school, he packed his bags and went on a journey around the world—not to escape life, but to find it. He wasn’t just sightseeing, but searching for meaning, for purpose, for that one thing he was meant to do.
Eventually, he found it in what he called his “crazy idea”—shoes. And once he knew what it was, he locked in with laser-sharp focus. He gave it everything.
But here’s what I keep thinking about:
What if Phil had given up? What if he had walked away when the banks rejected him, when suppliers failed him, when lawsuits piled up, and when everything screamed quit?
Would we have Nike today? Would I have the Nike Run app on my phone? Would you be wearing your favorite pair of Nikes right now?
Probably not.
Phil’s dream didn’t just change his life—it changed millions of lives, all because he refused to quit.
