Last week, I missed our usual #StorySaturday. Life was a bit full, and by the time I remembered on Monday… well, Saturday had already passed me by. So, here I am—back, and picking up from where we left off.
If you remember, I shared how a simple act of sitting quietly in a café reading a book led to an unexpected conversation… and that conversation opened the door to a whole new world I hadn't planned for. (If you missed that post, you might want to scroll back and catch up 😉)
So today, we pick it up from there.
It was still within that #52BooksIn52Weeks season, a time when I was reading one book a week, purely out of obedience to a quiet, divine nudge I couldn't shake off. That day, I had a client meeting at Mlimani City. For reasons I still can't explain, I arrived 30 minutes early. And since I had a bit of time, I pulled out Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg, appropriate, I thought, for Women’s Month, and started reading.
Now, I had no idea someone was watching me. I was completely immersed in my book. But eventually, a woman walked over and introduced herself. She smiled and said, “You’ve triggered my curiosity. Who are you and where do you come from?”
Apparently, seeing someone alone, completely absorbed in a book at a café, wasn’t something she encountered often. Her exact words? “Tanzanians are not known for reading books.” That conversation, which began with curiosity, would lead to us starting a reading club for a group of young business owners she was mentoring. Just like that, books did their magic again, bringing strangers together with purpose.
At the time I had no idea who she was, but I would later find out that she was none other than Veronica Kundya, leader of the formidable Team Unstoppables, a team of independent Business Owners under the umbrella of Forever Living Products (FLP). But at the time, she didn’t mention anything about her work. She wasn’t trying to recruit me. She was just genuinely drawn to the person I seemed to be. And that one gesture, her choosing connection over conversion, made me want to know more about her work.
Eventually, I joined her network, ironically not under her but under someone who was in her team. The opportunity opened up a world I had never known—health, nutrition, network marketing, and people doing amazing things across the continent. I began using the products myself and recommending them to others. One thing led to another… and before long, I began intentionally growing a customer base.
It was during this time that I reconnected with someone I had met years earlier. He’d called me for a meeting, and it so happened that on the same afternoon I was scheduled to meet him, I also had another appointment to deliver some FLP products, specifically Forever Freedom, to a different client.
So, rather than go back and forth, I decided to carry the products with me to my meeting. When we met, he noticed the items and asked what they were for. I explained the benefits and how they worked, and he immediately placed an order for himself. Since he was travelling early the next day, he asked me to drop them off at his office, which I did the following morning.
While he was away, one of the company’s directors happened to pass by the office, noticed the products on the table, Googled them out of curiosity, and asked the receptionist where they’d come from. Intrigued, he asked her to call the person who had delivered them as he wanted to speak to her directly. The only problem? She had lost my number.
Just as she was debating whether to call the other director to get it, I walked in. What she didn’t know is that I had been at home with no intention of leaving home that day, but for some unexplainable reason, I’d felt a quiet nudge to leave home and go to their office at that very moment. No appointment, no agenda, just a prompting I couldn’t ignore. She was both shocked and relieved to see me. And me? I just smiled because by now, I was learning that things like this were rarely just coincidence.
Once the receptionist recovered from her shock and disbelief at seeing me walk in just as she was wondering how to reach me, she quickly informed the other director that I was there. He too was surprised as he hadn’t expected to get a response that quickly.
He asked to see me right away.
As soon as I walked into his office, he pointed to the Forever Freedom bottle on the desk and said, “So you’re the one who brought this?” I smiled and nodded. That kicked off a series of questions about the product, its benefits, what else it could be paired with, and how it worked. I answered them all, weaving in personal experiences and everything I’d learned about the FLP products over time.
By the end of our conversation, he had placed an order, not just for himself, but also for his wife.
Then he looked at me, shook his head slightly, and said, “Forever guys are so lucky to have you as one of their salespeople.” I laughed gently and said, “Actually, I’m not employed by Forever. I’m an independent business owner. I use the products myself, and because I believe in them, I talk about them with confidence.”
He leaned back, nodded thoughtfully, and looked at me with the kind of piercing gaze that told me his mind was working through something deeper. Then, after what felt like an eternity, he asked me a question that would change everything:
“Have you ever heard of ISO?”
What transpired next is a story for next Saturday 😊 ... as for now, let’s look at lessons from today’s story.
-
Obedience often feels inconvenient, but it always carries purpose - What started as a quiet prompting to start a reading challenge turned into a chain reaction of encounters, opportunities, and open doors I could never have orchestrated on my own.
-
Don’t underestimate the power of small beginnings - That one book at that one café table sparked curiosity, conversation, and connection, leading to relationships, a new business, and eventually, a whole new professional path.
-
People don’t need to know your entire story to believe in you - Veronica didn’t know much about me, but something about that moment with the book moved her enough to invite me into her circle. Sometimes, people are drawn to your passion before they ever see your profile.
-
When you show genuine interest in others, doors open, both ways - Again, Veronica didn’t try to pitch me a business opportunity. She simply leaned into something she saw I loved: reading. That sincerity created room for mutual curiosity and respect, and from that, trust grew.
-
Not every detour is a distraction. Some are divine - I wasn’t planning to visit that office the day I did. But something nudged me, and I followed that nudge. Turns out, what seemed like a random visit was a divinely-timed appointment.
-
Sometimes, timing needs no schedule - The receptionist had lost my number and didn’t know how to reach me. But I walked in at the very moment she was wondering what to do. Coincidence? I don't believe so. Purpose knows how to align itself perfectly.
-
There is no such thing as “just a conversation.” - From chats about books… to chats about health… to chats about business and ISO standards, every conversation held a key. When you remain open, each one can become a stepping stone.
-
Your gift will make room for you, especially in unfamiliar rooms - All I did was explain what I knew, passionately and clearly. That confidence led someone to see value in me beyond what I was there for. Never shy away from using your voice — it may be the door-opener you didn’t see coming.
-
Your path won’t always make sense when you’re on it. But it will when you look back - Everything connects. Everything counts. And when you reflect, you’ll begin to see the divine fingerprints all over your journey.
And if there’s one big reminder I’d like to leave you with, it’s this:
There are no coincidences when it comes to purpose. Everything, even the smallest thing, is part of a grander plan. So pay attention. That tiny nudge might be the start of your next chapter.
Be Ignited. Be Inspired. Be Influenced. Become the best version of yourself.
