39 things you probably didn't know about me.
February 03, 2014
On my special day, I'd like to share a little bit about myself....
- I am the 1st born in a family of 2 girls, 8 years apart.
- Didn't speak a word until I was 3 years old, then I became a parrot (or so I was told).
- If it wasn't for the 8-4-4 system, I would have finished form 4 at the age of 16.
- I used to be part of the praise and worship team in church.
- Produced a few English and Kiswahili music tapes with the church then. I even did a gospel tape in Kisii..... (for those wondering, those days we didn't have CDs)
- Learnt how to ride a motor bike before I learnt how to ride a bicycle or drive a car.
- One of my hobbies is driving long distance. I have this need for speed. In fact, the last time I drove from Nairobi to Dar Es Salaam I hit 190 on the speedometer, and yes, I do this trip in a day.
- Wanted to become a rally driver but my mum wouldn't hear of it, so I bought myself a sports/rally car and drove it to Nairobi.
- I love music. I have a collection of close to 10,000 songs... original and borrowed (not sure whether the borrowed ones were pirated).
- I don't know how to dance... Yeah... I have two left feet, but I can dance very well while seated...:-)
- I am a gadget collector, and it seems I've infected my boys with this "disease".
- My first MacBook was given to me as a gift by my boss. I still have it.
- My first iPad (iPad 2) was given to me by a client as a gift. I still have it.
- My first job after school (before college) was at a dry-cleaners. I saw enough while I was there to conclude human beings are just..."special".
- After college, I tarmacked for 2 years before I landed a 3-day menial job collating monthly minutes at the Law Society of Kenya.
- After those 3 days I stayed at LSK for almost a year, doing different jobs in different departments. I learnt a very big lesson then; that when you are young, you should earn to learn.
- I became a mother at the age of 24.
- When I was pregnant with my first born, I had a cat called princess. She was killed by some neighbor's dogs and since then I've never had a cat for a pet again.
- I love animals in general, but dogs have a special place in my heart. As a result, I have one spoilt 7 year old Jack Russell called Pancho.
- When he was a puppy, he slept in my bed for one week. He was so small I feared he might die if I left him alone outside.
- I've never swam in the ocean. And no I don't want to. A bathtub is big enough for me, and the occasional shallow end of a swimming pool.
- There's a time I weighed 98 kgs. Now my weight ranges between 75-78 kgs, depending on how stressed I am.
- I don't sleep in moving vessels, whether a plane, train, bus, etc.
- Speaking of trains, I've only boarded a train once in my life, and that was a time matatus were on strike. Every time the train would swerve a bit, I almost peed in my pants because I thought it was going to derail. Not doing trains again.
- I've never eaten turkey, and if I have, I didn't know it was turkey. Must have thought it was one well fed chicken.
- I am a very light sleeper, and I suffer serious insomnia attacks. If anyone out there has a remedy for insomnia, please send it my way.
- I didn't know what blogging was until 2012. Now I have about five blogs each containing very different information. For those who have always asked, I blog to express what is on my mind and in my heart. It's my way of sharing what I feel.
- I don't have a sweet tooth. Yesterday I noticed some chocolate I was given more than 6 months ago still in the fridge.
- I used to be embarrassed about my lips because one of my aunties used to tell me they are like sausages. I even blogged about them last year on a day like this. Today, I embrace them totally and I consider them one of my treasured "assets".
- When I first came to Tanzania, I wasn't intending to stay for more than two years. That was nine years ago.
- Contrary to what many may think, I am very conservative, though on the other hand I am an adventurous person.
- I get really freaked out before I speak in public.
- Movies make me cry.... well, not all but mostly those that have dogs in them.
- I am not a morning person....Yeah, I am like that old Peugeot 504, meaning I take a while to warm up.
- I don't fear taking risks. Let me rephrase that.... before I do something, I don't get freaked out by the risks I might encounter on the way, but after I've done it, I look back and wonder whether I was crazy to even think of doing what I did... fear grips me after not before.
- I would love to drive a truck (those things that have "50 wheels" and carry containers), bungee, sky-dive and fly a plane before I move on to the next world.
- I love laughing. If I'm chatting with you and you see this "LOL", be sure I am actually LOLing for real.
- My favorite reading place is in my loo.
- Last but not least, sometimes I feel like I have not done much with my life...... but then again I remember I am not a VIP but I am WIP i.e. Work In Progress.

Happy Birthday Liz Another
Happy Birthday Liz
Another New Year and new revelations.
A cure for insomnia that works for me is Psalm 4:8 and Isaiah 26:3. Meditating upon them, has made me sleep like a baby.
My Prayer for You is Psalm 138 and 139.
God Bless You.
