Biography

One of the things I really find hard to do is telling people about myself, but for the purposes of giving you an idea of who I am, I will try as much as possible to be brief and straight to the point. As the name of the blog suggests, my name is Liz Wachuka, a young woman born in the mid 70s in Nairobi Kenya, but currently living in Tanzania. I am the first born in a family of two girls, my sibling being eight (8) years my junior.

As with every young child whose parents are in a position to, I went through the usual motions of school and college but could not proceed to University because by that time, my mom could not afford to educate both my sister and I. All the same, that did not discourage me from achieving my dream and though it will only take me longer, I am still following my dream of becoming a PHD.

I do alot of motivational blogging on this blog and other platforms. I am passionate about motivating young adults and freshers from college and univiersities, but above all, my daily mission is to ignite, inspire and influence at least one person to be transformed from the inside out.

Now that the formalities are over, I'd like to share a lesson I stumbled upon when I was still young and didn't know how my life would be like. I learned that if you are focused on achieving a particular goal, then the best you can do is keep your eyes on the goal because as soon as you look elsewhere, you start seeing all manner of obstacles. I also learned that even though no one believed in me then, I believed in myself and saw myself changing my life and those of others.

Like I said earlier, the best my Mom could do is take me through secondary school and college, meaning I could only do so much there. My plan was to take a short course that would equip me with a few basic tools that would enable me get a job, so that from my salary I could save and further educate myself to the level I dreamt of reaching. The easiest, shortest and most affordable course I could take was a Full Secretarial course, which at the time was beginning to become obsolete because with the introduction of computers, secretaries were soon becoming redundant.

It took me a long time to get a job after college, but eventually I got a break and my first job was that of a filing clerk at the Law Society of Kenya. From there I joined Occidental Insurance as a copy typist in the Underwriting Department, and later joined the IT Department after being sponsored by Occidental Insurance for a programming course at one of the local IT colleges. From there things started looking up for me and eventually, I landed a job at Wananchi Online, which transformed my life completely, thanks to a lady called Njeri Rionge. The rest as they say is history…

I have not achieved everything I want to achieve yet, but I am grateful to God for this far He has brought me. My reason for sharing this with you is so that in case you are feeling discouraged by all the odds that surround you, please do not to give up. I encourage you to focus on your goals and dreams and though it might take a long time, in the long run it will all come together. Many years ago when I was still a young secondary school girl, I used to dream of owning my own company. I kept that dream alive in my heart and today I do, and I know many more are on the way.
