Food For Thought

"All riches have their origin in the mind. Wealth is in ideas - not money" ~ Robert Collier Many people have it twisted that being rich is the same as being wealthy. You can be rich but not wealthy, but wealth can very well incorporate riches. The main difference between being rich and being wealthy is knowledge. Wealthy people know how to make money while rich people only have money.  Rich people are motivated by money but wealthy people are motivated by their dreams, purposes and passions. Most rich people make a lot of money with their paychecks but the moment they stop working, they also stop making money. Most rich people have to be there to make money but the wealthy make their money even when they are sleeping.  Wealthy people build sustainable wealth that can last for years through asset investments producing multiple streams of income.  Rich people, on the other hand, may get money in an instant such as inheritance or winning a lottery. However, because of lack of proper... [Continue reading]
In other words, when you are young, work for the experience not for the pay cheque. Once you have accumulated all the skills and experience you can in your area of focus, then you can start calling the shots but until then, earn to learn. Remember yesterday I did mention that one of the keys to success is reading informative materials. Now, if you read the book Rich Dad, Poor Dad, there is a chapter in the book that talks about the philosophy of working to learn. Many people don’t understand it but it is an integral part of your journey to living your purpose successfully.  It doesn’t matter how many years you spend in college but there are some things you will never learn or internalize properly until you are in an environment where you will put what you have learnt into practice.  Take for example driving a car; it doesn’t matter how good you are in theory the day you drive on the road you will realize theory is very different from real life experience.  The same is true with every... When was the last time you read a book, or a substantial magazine article? Or you are one of those whose daily reading habits center around tweets, Facebook updates and gossip columns? I know many people complain they don’t have time to read but if you want to develop yourself, if you want to become a better person, you have no choice but to make reading a daily routine. All you need is 20 minutes every day and if in 20 minutes you can read 10 pages, that means in 20 days you’ll have finished a 200 page book, just by reading 20 minutes a day, which means you can read 3 books in 2 months. What are the benefits of reading a good book? 1. It stimulates your mind 2. A good book is a great stress reliever 3. A good book provides a wealth of information; as they say, information is power 4. It expands your vocabulary  5. Helps improve your memory  6. Causes your thinking juices to flow 7. Improves Focus and Concentration 8. Provides a basis for better writing skills 9. Helps you cultivate... [Continue reading]
So, maybe according to you yesterday was not a very good day; no problem. Today is a new day. What does a new day represent? It represents new opportunities; renewed determination; renewed vigor; restored strength, new ideas and visions, etc. A new day means a new perspective.  Like plants covered in morning dew every morning, every day comes wrapped in possibilities. Similarly, like morning dew dries up by a certain time of the morning, the day’s possibilities are also likely to dry up if you don’t wake up early enough to embrace them. So this is a call to all of us today; always face a new day with hope because every day comes with new and fresh possibilities. You just need to wake up and see those possibilities.
At some point in your life you must have heard the saying, “choices have consequences”. Yes. Whether good or bad choices, there are always consequences to deal with; could be good or bad.  Say for example Ian Jege, a very talented friend of mine who has had it with people taking advantage of his kindness. He posted this on his Facebook wall…… "Dear friends, I hope your Sunday is treating you well? A quick one. If the last 5 consecutive times you have called me have been to ask for a freebee that somehow involves the use of a skill I have spent years mastering, allow me to assure you that my bills are not payed with favor collections. Also, please feel free to misplace my number. God Bless". Ouch! Now that’s what I call being gutsy and ballsy. It takes someone with real guts to make a tough choice to do what he did. If you are one of his friends and you go back to him with a freebee request, you've got to be out of your mind. There comes a time in life when you have to stop being a YES... [Continue reading]
If you’ve ever been deeply in love, then you’ll understand the above message. You always get a rush when you receive that good morning message from them; doesn’t matter whether s/he is in the next room, or across the world. When that message comes through, your heart skips a beat and suddenly you feel warm all over, especially if that is the message that woke you up. Why? Because that one message means that the person on the other end of the message was thinking of you when s/he woke up.  Sadly though, most relationships no longer have this spark and some couples can even go for hours without getting in touch with each other in the course of the day. And that’s how relationships die… anyway, that’s a story for another day. What if I told you that there’s someone who is always thinking of you every minute of every day? What if I told you that it doesn’t matter what you’ve done or haven’t done, His love is still the same? What if I told you He always has your “I’m thinking about you”... [Continue reading]
..... or like we were taught when computers became part of our lives, “Garbage In, Garbage Out". Your life is a reflection of the commands you give to your “computer”. If you key in the right commands, then the output will be excellent; the reverse is also true. Eg if you key in laziness, you’ll reap the  fruits of laziness, etc. Life is also a magnet; it has a way of attracting the things you are thinking or speaking about. If you keep confessing negative then don’t be surprised if you have nothing positive to write home about. If you keep confessing positive, then sooner or later positive stuff starts happening for and to you. No wonder someone said, “Life is like a mirror; smile at it, it smiles back. Frown at it, it frowns right back”. You can do everything else right but if you have a wrong attitude (if you keep frowning at life), then it is very unlikely that you will ever enjoy your life. Here’s my challenge to you for the next 24 hours: 1. Smile at everyone you meet, whether... [Continue reading]
I’m yet to see a mediocre person who is successful. It’s kinda like saying one can be awake and asleep at the same time; actually wrong example - some people do; but I’m sure you understand what I mean. I like what the late Margaret Thatcher said on the issue of Success. To quote her: “What is success? I think it is a mixture of having a flair for the thing that you are doing; knowing that it is not enough, that you have got to have hard work and a certain sense of purpose.” Note she said HARD WORK, not words. Many people are stuck in a dead-end kind of life today because they do more talking than they do the work. Words won’t take you anywhere, unless you use them to make money like lawyers, writers or motivational speakers; but then again their work entails putting words into work. So at the end of the day they still work! Like Thomas A. Edison said, “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work”. Actually he was wrong; opportunity doesn... [Continue reading]
… Let me explain. Jim John was fond of saying this during his many speaking engagements; “You don’t get paid by the hour. You get paid for the value you bring to the hour.” And he was right! That is why two people can spend the same amount of time in the same office, maybe even sitting at the same workstation but when the end of the month comes, the salary cheque has a difference of several “zeros” in between. Why? Because one is paid $30 per hour while the other is paid $300. So if they are both working the same hours, what is the difference? The difference is the value each brings to the table. Our impact and how replaceable we are is what really makes our income grow or shrink. To increase your income dramatically, impact more people in a positive way. If you’re an average, minimum wage employee, get some experience, learn how other positions work, and grow yourself to a higher level position.  The more you know and the more experience you get, the better chance you have of landing... Life has a way of pulling a fast one on us. Things happen that you didn't expect and if you are not careful, you might end up being depressed. But guess what, in every bad situation, there is always something positive to embrace. You just need to look long and hard enough and you will see it. In the words of Laura Staley, “Sometimes life events break your heart. Even as you grieve, allow light to seep through the cracks, uplift, and illuminate a healing. Just like baby turtles emerge from the cracking of shells, new life can burst forth. Clear away all broken belongings as a metaphorical pathway fresh, loving experiences in uncharted waters.”
"What you don't use you eventually Lose" Think about it. If you decided to sit still (like a statue) in one position for just one hour, what would happen to you behind and your legs? You start getting those "needles" that prick you. Why, because at that point your legs and butt are so uncomfortable they are screaming for help - relief. They need to be exercised a bit so that the blood can flow through the veins properly. This goes for very muscle you have in your body; they all need to be exercised regualrly, otherwise you end up losing what you don't use. The unused part becomes weak and dysfunctional until eventually, you lose it. That's why people go through physiotheraphy so they can re-train their muscles to function properly again expecially after an accident. The same case applies to the brain. It is a muscle too that needs constant exercises by providing it with enough mental exercises. If you do not exercise your brain, it starts screaming for help and when you don't listen... Ever wanted to do something so much because deep down your heart you know it is a God-given agenda you are propagating, only to be met with obstacles from every corner of your life, and sometimes from the least unexpected persons? Well, me too. Then I landed upon this powerful message by the famous televangelist, Joel Osteen.... “I want to talk to you today about redeeming the time. Time is one of the most valuable commodities that we have. It is more valuable than money. You can make more money but you cannot make more time. Queen Elizabeth said on her deathbed, “I would give my entire kingdom for just one more day” When you woke up this morning, God gave you a present; it is called today. With that gift comes a responsibility. The scripture tells us to redeem the time (Ephesians 5:16). That simply means don’t let it go to waste, don’t live this day unfocused, unhappy, negative, defeated. Make the most of each day. Things may not be perfect, you may have some obstacles but you can... [Continue reading]
