Food For Thought

Forget about what scientists, biologists, cosmotologists and all other "ists" have to say about the atmosphere and why it gets cooler as you go further and further up from the ground. They say something about the sun's rays heating the earth and then the heat from the earth starts heating the atmosphere, and that the higher you go from the ground that heat reduces and hence the cold. Which to me and from a layman's point does not make sense since the further I am from the earth, the closer I get to the sun...... think about it like a normal person would and you'll see what I mean. Anyway, that's why I didn't become a cosmologist, or a biologist or a scientist. I wonder how I would be if I had.....Anyway I digress. I have my own version of why the higher you go the cooler it becomes. Let's first establish what I mean by "high". Anyone who has taken strides in moving from the ground level to a higher level be it at work, in business or in their studies will tell you that the journey was... [Continue reading]
When I was growing up, I used to see my aunties and older cousins rushing to buy the Sunday newspaper just so they could see what their "stars" had to say about their life for the coming week. They would get so excited if there was something positive and very uneasy if there was something negative. It's like the horoscope was their compass for the week and based on what it said, good or bad, their moods and actions would follow accordingly.  Uncounciously, when I grew up I started doing the same but thankfully, before I could get compeltely swallowed by this belief, I realized that no matter what the stars said, I still had to work hard for me to put a meal on my table and have a roof over my head and cloths on my back. But you know what I also realized, that there are times when we pick up habits from people unknowingly, yet those habits may not be constructive at all. No wonder Jim Rohn said what he said about the associations we keep. If you missed that article you can read it here... [Continue reading]
You first conceive it in your mind before you act on it in the physical. Every action ever performed on earth first happened in the mind as a thought before it became a reality for the person who conceived it. Unless someone is possessed by demons, no one does things withouth having thought them (through) first. For instance when you slap someone, it doesn't just happen by mistake; it is something that starts in your mind, even if it is for one split second. When you call someone stupid, foolish or selfish, it means that's what you think about them and because your mind is full of such negative thoughts about that particular person, you end up voicing those thoughts and sometimes acting on them. That is why it is very important for someone to take control of what they let their minds conceive. Whatever you think is reflected in how you act. Your thoughts therefore become your actions. I wonder what thoughts you intend to act on today. Whatever they are, I hope they will have a... [Continue reading]
This quote by Jim Rohn (the late) says alot in fourteen words; "You are the average of the FIVE people you spend the most time with" To best illustrate it, let me share a story I'm sure you must have heard or read about at some point in your life. Here goes.... There’s an old, well known story of a chicken farmer who found an eagle’s egg. He put it with his chickens and soon the egg hatched. The young eagle grew up with all the other chickens and whatever they did, the eagle did too.  He thought he was a chicken, just like them. Since the chickens could only fly for a short distance, the eagle also learnt to fly a short distance. He thought that was what he was supposed to do. So that was all that he thought he could do.  As a consequence, that was all he was able to do. One day the eagle saw a bird flying high above him. He was very impressed. “Who is that?” he asked the hens around him. “That’s the eagle, the king of the birds,” the hens told him. “He belongs to the sky. We belong... [Continue reading]
You must have heard the saying, "do today what no one else wants to do so that you can have tomorrow what no one else will have". That right there is one pillar of success. Unfortunately most people don't get it and they think that success is something you achieve in a day. How wrong! Success is the sum total of small (correct) actions done consitently, persistently with accuracy and excellence which over a period of time build up to be something huge. Something called Success. Those little actions put together can either make or break someone's future. If you are consistent in doing negative actions, eventually the results will be negative. If you are consistent in positive actions, the results will be positive. You can't sow a mango and expect to reap a melon. You reap what you sow. If you sow laziness, then you will reap the sure fruits of laziness. If you sow hardwork and diligence, then eventually the fruits will show. Unless you inherited your wealth, no one gets wealthy without... [Continue reading]
I've heard it said severally that, "necessity is the mother of invention", but this never really did sink in until it had to sink in. You see, the true meaning of this quote is that when the need for something becomes imperative, you are forced to find ways of getting or achieving it, no matter what. For instance, if you know your rent is due, you will do everything in your power to make sure you pay it before your landlord kicks you into the street leaving you in the cold especially during this cold season.  Similarly, if a dude has his eyes set on a particular woman he will do whatever it takes to make sure he gets her, even if it means making a fool of himself. He will invent ways of attracting her attention, suddenly you'll see a change in his overal demeanor, right from the way he dresses to the way he carries himself and talks, especially around the object of his attention. That's whey you see them opening car doors for the ladies. Unfortunately in most cases, that whole show... [Continue reading]
Everything you see in the world today is in existence because somebody somewhere gave themselves the permission to dream. In fact, they not only gave themselves permission to dream, but they also went ahead and realized their dream.  For instance, today we have crappers (toilets) because one guy called Thomas Crapper thought of making life easy for his boss. Not sure what had happened but whatever it was, am glad we have toilets in our homes. Remember the Wright Brothers? I guess if it weren't for them we'd still be sailing to America and other parts of the world not because we want to go on a cruise, but because that's the only way we could have been traveling long distance. Thank God for the Wright Brothers because through them, the concept of flying was introduced into the world. In a world of 7 plus billion human beings, can you imagine how many pigeons we would need in order to send messages across, from one person to another, or from one person to a group of people? Poor pigeons... [Continue reading]
Happy New Month y'all! The first part of the year is gone and we are onto the second half. If you have nothing else to be grateful for, at least you should be grateful for seeing the second half of the year! Since the year begun, there are things you probably wanted to get done but didn't because you thought the year was still young and you had many months ahead of you. Suddenly you now realize time is not on your side anymore and you are now panicking. STOP! Panicking will not help you get stuff done. As a matter of fact, it will only cause you to withdraw, to regret and to resent yourself for not starting whatever you wanted to start when you should have started. Instead of panicking this is what you should do; take a deep breath and NOW start doing what you should have started doing on 2nd of January 2017. Key word is NOW. You see, unless you start now you'll never get anything done. You will continue procrastinating until you realize it is 31st December 2017, then you end up... [Continue reading]
I think Pele put it best when he said, "Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” And that my friends is the secret of success. You cannot order success like you go in a restaurant and order for food. You have to work for it. Nothing great is handed to you on a silver platter. Like someone else said, it takes tremendous efforts to accomplish something great.  To accomplish success, prepare yourself (by learning), then work hard (by applying what you have learnt and are still learning) and be persistent (don’t give up when you fail). Success is a result of focused preparation, lots of hard work and learning from your numerous failures. That's why the spelling of success is W-O-R-K. So the next time you ignore work because it is dirty and tedious, what you are essentially doing is saying NO to your possibility of succeeding. Get off your behind and go work! Even if it is a small... [Continue reading]
If I’ve said this before then I’m saying it again for emphasis: succeed in silence. Why? Because: 1. Not everyone wants to see you succeed, so they’ll want to stand in your way of success. 2. Not everyone will understand your journey, so they’ll try to discourage you. 3. Not every successful person wants you to be a success, so they will try to keep you down instead of helping you up to reduce competition.   The safest way to attain your success is with quiet precision, making positive strides towards your goal every day. To quote Frank Ocean, "Work hard in silence, let your success be your noise”.  Go on out and succeed in silence. Be Ignited. Be Inspired. Be Influenced. Become the best version of yourself you can ever be.
Think about when you visit a seamstress with an aim of getting yourself a new outfit done. What do you do? You either go to her with a pre-determined design in your mind, or with one already in your hand or on your phone. Why? Because there is no way she will be able to come up with an outfit for you without a design to follow. And so it is with life. The only way you will ever be able to create the life you want is if you first see it in your mind. You cannot produce what you don't see. You cannot create something you have no idea about. You have to create it first in your mind before you replicate it in real life. Think about it. Anything you ever did and succeeded in doing first started in your mind then it became a reality. If it was getting married to your spouse, you must have thought about this happening before you approached her, and she must have thought about being your wife before accepting your proposal. What about the house you are building? Did you just wake up and start... [Continue reading]
Yes it does. It requires time to practice, time to make mistakes, time to try again until you get it right. And even after you get it right, you still have to continue practicing because if you don't then you become complacent and eventually end up losing the edge you had while you were practicing. Then you have to start all over again, which requires even more time. Whatever it is you are planning on doing, whatever it is you've set your sights or focus on, keep trying, keep bettering yourself until you hit the bullseye. Not once but as many times as you need to in order to stay on top of your game. Nothing comes easy. Success doesn't just happen. Maintaining a position of success does not just happen. It requires a lot of sacrifice in terms of time, energy and other resources not only to succeed but also to retain/maintain that success. The reason why most people are one-hit wonders when it comes to succeeding in something is because once they achieve success in that thing, they... [Continue reading]
