Food For Thought

Once upon a time there were five monkeys who lived together for a very long time. Each morning they would wake up and go up a tree that was close by, with a bunch of bananas to feed on for the day. Each evening they would go down the tree to rest for the night, and start the same process the next day. Though they lived in a very big forest, all they were familiar with was the tree they spent their day on top of and its immediate surroundings, where they slept at night. One day one of them asked his mates, "we have been doing this for a long time, following the same monotonous and repetitive schedule like clockwork every day. All we have managed to do is grow fat physically but thin mentally. Is this all life is about? Is this all we were created to do?" The other four were silent for a few minutes, obviously thinking hard about what their mate had said. Finally one of them said, "it is true we have not done anything worth talking about all our life. I think it's time we left this tree... [Continue reading]
Paths without obstacles don't lead anywhere important. A successful person will never see a day that does not bring a fresh quota of problems. What makes him different, what makes him successful is his ability to deal with those problems effectively. He sees those impossible situations as opportunities to convert them into possible situations. What are you seeing when you look at the obstacles on your path  right now?  Thought borrowed from a friend, Regina Kavisu Mwengi
Today I write this message from a place of feeling very discouraged. I write this from a place of feeling tired by things that are going on around me. I write this from a point of acknowledging that every day is different from the next. If you are going through such a time, tooday I am you and I share this word of encouragement to uplift you and I both. There may be days when you get up in the morning and things aren’t the way you had hoped they would be. Times when you try so hard to smile on the outside while you are dying gradualy on the inside;  today is such a day for me.   It is during such times that you shouldn’t give up. That’s when you have to tell yourself that things will get better, just like I am telling myself today. It is true that you may be feeling disappointed because even your closest friends may have let you down. They made promises they couldn’t keep and now all of a sudden you feel alone, disappointed and probably angry. It could be because of the loss of a... [Continue reading]
This week's message is a dedication to Kenya and all her residents: The friend in my adversity I shall always cherish most. I can better trust those who helped to relieve the gloom of my dark hours than those who are so ready to enjoy with me the sunshine of my prosperity - Ulysses S. Grant Kenyans (including non Kenyans living in Kenya) have shown commendable unity and togetherness during this very trying time. They have shown what it means "Being your Brother's Keeper".  For once tribalism, class, race and religion have not been able to divide us. My hope and prayer is that even after this is over, the same brotherhood/sisterhood and togetherness that we have been demonstrating in the last couple of days will continue. God bless Kenya and all those who come from and live in this beautiful country.
Abraham Lincoln said, “Reputation is the shadow. Character is the tree.” Our character is much more than just what we try to display for others to see; it is who we are, even when no one is watching. Good character is doing the right thing always not because someone has a gun to your head, but because it is right to do what is right. Character is evidenced by your life’s virtues and the “line you never cross.” Character is the most valuable thing you have, and nobody can ever take it away. it is important to have a good character because this is what makes people believe in you. A good character is normally derived from living a life governed by integrity. Integrity means adhering to a moral code of honesty, courage, strength and truthfulness to your word. Lack of integrity not only hurts others, but it hurts you even more. As you go about your day today and every other day remember this: A good character is the most important asset you have. It takes a lifetime to build but if you... [Continue reading]
Did you know that when you take 100 percent responsibility for holding yourself accountable, your performance will improve, your relationships will flourish, your market value will soar, people’s respect for you will skyrocket, you will be a great example for others to follow, and your self-esteem will grow too? How is it that in all these areas of your life you can see such dramatic improvement? Because when you hold yourself accountable to doing the things you know you should do, you will distinguish yourself from the crowd. I am convinced if you want to advance your life personally or professionally, you must hold yourself accountable for your actions, responsibilities, and goals. Think about it. Why should it be someone else’s job to make sure you are doing the things that you know you should to be doing? As you chew on this also think about the quote below: "My belief is that personal freedom cannot grow beyond personal responsibility. The more people that... [Continue reading]
I can tell you for free that every time you try doing something that will change the way your life looks right now, you are bound to get lots of discouragement from different people, especially from the least expected quarters. In fact, besides discouraging you, they might even engage in "exercises" that will bring you down. My word of encourangement this week is this: Don't let the silly little dramas of each day get to you and put you down. Always remember you are here to do greater things...
Honesty is a fundamental ingredient in life.  It comes into play majorly especially when we make mistakes in life. My quote for the week boarders around honesty in relation to these mistakes we make in life. "Although we all make mistakes in life,  the situation could be changed if we choose to honestly look at the mistakes we have made and acknoweldge them. The problem occurs when we try to hide our mistakes, trying to cover them instead of learning from them and allowing other people to learn from our mistakes too. We need to learn to deal honestly with mistakes that we make and be responsible and accountable for them. because in not doing so, we create more problems for ourselves.  If we live by the rule of honesty and accept that there is a problem or challenge that has come up, then we can go far down the road of achievement because then, we open doors to looking for solutions. It all starts with honesty. Derived from the book Think Big
