Who is in your inner circle?

This quote by Jim Rohn (the late) says alot in fourteen words; "You are the average of the FIVE people you spend the most time with"

To best illustrate it, let me share a story I'm sure you must have heard or read about at some point in your life. Here goes....

There’s an old, well known story of a chicken farmer who found an eagle’s egg. He put it with his chickens and soon the egg hatched.

The young eagle grew up with all the other chickens and whatever they did, the eagle did too.  He thought he was a chicken, just like them. Since the chickens could only fly for a short distance, the eagle also learnt to fly a short distance.

He thought that was what he was supposed to do. So that was all that he thought he could do.  As a consequence, that was all he was able to do.

One day the eagle saw a bird flying high above him. He was very impressed. “Who is that?” he asked the hens around him.

“That’s the eagle, the king of the birds,” the hens told him. “He belongs to the sky. We belong to the earth, we are just chickens.”

So the eagle lived and died as a chicken, for that’s what he thought he was.

How sad it was that this eaglet never lived to know his full potential? How sad that his mind was conditioned to believe that he was what he was not.

Unfortunately so many people are like this eaglet. They are living lives they are not supposed to simply because they have associated themselves with people or groups that feed them with the wrong information about them. Like Jim Rohn said without mentioning the words in the quote I started with, you can never be anything different from the people you associate yourself with constantly. If they are idlers then you will be an idler too. If they are studious, then you will find yourself feeling motivated to study. If they are successful, you will want to be successful like them to.

You may have been brought up in a situation that limited your understanding of your potential, but it’s time now for the past to lose its hold on you. If you want to fly like an ealgle, then you need to move away from the chicken in your life and look for the eagles you want to emulate.

Don’t die thinking you’re a chicken. Spread your wings and learn how to soar high, just as you were meant to.

Desire and determine to be what you are meant to be.

Be Ignited. Be Inspired. Be Influenced. Become the best version of yourself you can ever be.
