Thought For The Week: The Acronym C.H.A.R.A.C.T.E.R

Abraham Lincoln said, “Reputation is the shadow. Character is the tree.”

Our character is much more than just what we try to display for others to see; it is who we are, even when no one is watching. Good character is doing the right thing always not because someone has a gun to your head, but because it is right to do what is right. Character is evidenced by your life’s virtues and the “line you never cross.” Character is the most valuable thing you have, and nobody can ever take it away.

it is important to have a good character because this is what makes people believe in you. A good character is normally derived from living a life governed by integrity. Integrity means adhering to a moral code of honesty, courage, strength and truthfulness to your word. Lack of integrity not only hurts others, but it hurts you even more.

As you go about your day today and every other day remember this: A good character is the most important asset you have. It takes a lifetime to build but if you are not careful, you can lose it in an instant. And just like trust, once lost, it is difficult to regain.

The next time you are tempted to act based on short-term gain or an "easy fix" to a problem, always remember that you are eroding your character. The old adage “you are what you do” is true. Failure to consider the long term consequences of your acts can be disastrous.

Nothing is more important for TRUE SUCCESS in your life than a GOOD CHARACTER. And only you can develop a good character.

Character is what makes you leave a public  toilet clean for the next person after you use it; it's what makes you wash your hands after using the toilet; it's what makes you not pick your nose or scratch your balls in public - not that there's a good time to do it anyway; It's what makes you not litter the streets with unbiodegradable stuff, even though no one will stop you; it's what makes you tow the line in traffic, instead of overlapping and driving like a super-moron; it's what makes you treat the watchman, maid or the waiter with respect; it's what keeps you in check when you could have gone ahead and strayed like your neighbour's dog; In short, Character is what you do when no one is watching you.

To sum it all up for us, I leave you with Theodore Roosevelt's words: "I care not what others think of what I do, but I care very much about what I think of what I do! That is character!"
