Be Uniquely You

Sometimes a majority simply means that all the fools are on the same side.” ― Claude C. McDonald.

I know that quote may sound very insensitive but unfortunately it is very true. Many people fear being different; they fear standing up for what is true and what they believe in because they don’t want to be ridiculed or hated by others.

Haven’t you heard what someone said about wanting to please everyone? Whoever it is said this, “If you want to make everyone happy, don’t be a leader; sell Ice Cream”. Why did s/he say that? I guess it is because he or she had realized that for you to make a difference in life, you will have to go against many people who think everything you are doing is wrong, people who think you are nuts. Why? Because the vision you were given is yours alone; it was given to you and not to them. No matter how much you try explaining it to them, they will never understand because they have no role to play in it.

Friends, trying to conform or to fit in is the surest way of losing your vision and the quickest way to never accomplish your purpose on earth. The moment you refuse to embrace your uniqueness, your different way of thinking or doing things, that is the moment you start your journey to the graveyard.

My favorite motivational speaker Les Brown said this, "The graveyard is the richest place on earth, because it is here that you will find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, the books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered, all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to carry our their dream.”… and I add, too afraid to be different.

You want to live a fulfilled life? Quit struggling to fit in and embrace your uniqueness. Step out in boldness and give the world what you’ve got. Whether those in your world agree with you or not that is their own problem.

Like Bill Cosby said, "I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.”
