Food For Thought

Ever sat on your leg for a long time, or folded your hands for a long time without stretching them? What happens when you eventually stretch? Pins and needles, right? That is because our bodies were not created to stay immobile for long.  That’s why you’ll fall asleep in one position, but when you wake up you find yourself sleeping in a different position, not necessarily because you were having a bad dream but because your body can’t stay in one position for long. Your brain unconsciously moves it.  Well, I’m not a doctor, but that’s my story and I’m going to stick to it. Did you know that your brain is a muscle too, and that it needs regular exercise, otherwise it becomes weak and eventually withers and becomes useless? Yes. Contrary to what people think, the more you use your brain, the stronger it becomes. The brain is not like a bar of soap which slowly diminishes as you use it. It is more like a seedling; the more you take care of it (by using it), the bigger it grows. In... [Continue reading]
.......unless of course you don’t have any ideas.  In the words of George Bernard Shaw: “If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.” That is why you should spend time thinking every day. Besides thinking, it is equally important to surround yourself with people who also think, people who have ideas. Evaluate the people around you; do you get anything new from them every time you meet them, or are you the one who is always giving them your ideas? Surround yourself with people who inspire you, people who ignite fire in your heart, people who are a positive influence to you.
I’d never thought about this until I thought about it. Sorry if this sounds like a #YogiBerra quote but it is not.  Not sure why or what I was doing when I suddenly thought of looking up the meaning of darkness from the dictionary.  According to the dictionary, darkness is the partial or total absence of light. In other words, where there is no light, there is darkness. No wonder people use the saying, “he is in a very dark place right now” when someone is going through a challenge or suffering depression, or has lost hope in life in more ways than one. Where there is Light there is life. You try switching the lights off in the middle of dinner at home and you’ll see what happens to you; you’ll probably turn into a meal yourself, torn into shreds by your family members because of taking away their light. Light illuminates; if you are “in darkness" about a certain situation, seek information. Light clarifies; if you are “in the dark” about a certain topic, seek clarification.  Light... “It isn’t what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about.” ~ Dale Carnegie And that right there is why I say happiness is a choice.  It is a choice because once you know what makes you unhappy, you'll not want to stick around and wait for it to bring you unhappiness, will you? A normal person will not. He or she will gravitate towards what brings them happiness.  Alot may not be going the way you want it to, but that's not a ticket for you to be unhappy. Instead, choose what you allow your thoughts to dwell on but don't encourage negative thoughts in your mind. "There is only one way to happiness and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will.” ~ Epictetus Choose to be happy even when you feel you shouldn't, and happiness will follow you wherever you go.    Ignite happiness wherever you are. Inspire and influence others with your thoughts and words, causing happiness... [Continue reading]
Some peple are so negative that every time they say something it affects all those around them negatively. Those are the kind of people to be avoided; they are toxic. Their negativity is so strong that it causes more crippled minds instead of creating ripples of positivity all around them.  To such people I say this; if you can’t say anything positive then please don’t say it at all. Use your mouth to cause ripples of positivity in the sea of life.  Be a ripple causer.... Cause ripples of joy and happiness. Cause ripples of positive energy. Cause ripples of possibilities.  Cause ripples of peace and harmony.  Cause ripples of blessings.  Cause ripples of innovation and creativity.  Cause ripples of unity and togetherness.  Cause ripples of Love and affection.
For a chef to make a buffet meal and have it ready for his guests to indulge, a lot goes into the preparation of the food. First, he has to know who his guests are and whether they are vegetarian or non-veggie. This information helps him prepare the menu items. Once he has the menu items, the next step is to find the ingredients needed, the tools (such as pots and pans) he will need to prepare the meal, not forgetting the cutlery he will need to serve the meal. Knowing all these details will help him prepare stuff in advance which ensures he doesn’t leave out any important element of the meal. He also knows how much time he will need to prepare the meal since he already knows what to prepare and how long it will take. The same case applies to success. Just like a meal does not just happen, success doesn’t just happen either. Success is the result of meticulous preparation, proper blending of all the required ingredients such as resilience, dedication, discipline, passion, focus,... [Continue reading]
Sometimes we miss out on opportunities, or fail in certain aspects of life and business, not because we don’t know, but because we don’t know we don’t know. It is safe to ask questions when in doubt, or when you don’t know something. Not asking and messing up because you didn’t ask makes one dumber than a dumb person.
Forget about the bike; just looking at it makes me feel like going for my riding gear and riding this beauty for the next several hours. What a beauty! Anyway, I digress. Everything you’ll ever want in life begins with you. The day I realized that if I want something achieved I have to achieve it myself, that is the day I realized I have no one to blame for where I am except for ME. Similarly, the day you realize that you are the only one who can take you where you desire to go, that is the day you will stop blaming people and situations and instead focus and doing what you know you should do in order to get to your destiny. Questions for you…. ~ Do you know your PURPOSE? ~ Have you activated your PURPOSE? ~ Does that purpose ignite a PASSION in you to achieve it [the purpose]? ~ Does that purpose influence your decisions, or the path you follow and/or the choices you make in life? If your PURPOSE is strong enough, it will stir up a PASSION so deep that no matter what happens along... [Continue reading]
Two little boys were playing on some ice during winter. As they were playing one fell through a section that had thin cold ice. Instantly, the little fellow who was left on top of the ice did not panic but instead attempted to save his buddy. Unfortunately, the little boy was (literally) too little and too short to reach his buddy, though he could see him through the ice, slipping further and further away from him. His brain working overtime, he looked around trying to look for something he could use, and that’s when he saw this big tree a short distance away. He quickly ran to the tree, climbed on it and broke down an enormous branch from the tree, ran back with it to the spot where his buddy had fallen and madly started beating the ice till he broke through. His fast actions saved his friend’s life. Meanwhile, an old man who was passing by called the paramedics while the boy was saving his friend. When the paramedics came, they were told what had happened but when they saw the... [Continue reading]
Decisions.  Very tricky “things” those are, yet there is no escaping them. Every single day we have to make decisions that affect our lives in one way or another. If for instance you decided to stay home today without permission from your employer instead of going to work, then be prepared to face the repercussions of that decision tomorrow. If you decided to invest in the stock market today instead of buying a piece of land, again, be prepared to live with the results of that decision. Decisions activate either a negative or a positive reaction.  When you don’t decide what to do about something, nothing happens. I like what Mhairi McFarlane said; “Do nothing, and nothing happens. Life is about decisions. You either make them or they're made for you, but you can't avoid them.” And that friends is the reality of life. You might be facing some situations that call for some very tough decisions, but unless you become bold enough and make decisions about those situations, you will not... [Continue reading]
Has it ever occurred to you that most people see you as they see themselves, that the things they say about you are the things they themselves are?  That’s why some smart people came up with the theory that if you want to catch a thief, send another thief to catch him. Think about that for a minute. What people think about should be none of your business. Even if you find out what their opinion of you is, it cannot change who you are or how you live your life, unless you let it control you by making other people’s thoughts your thoughts.  You really cannot control what other people think about you (whether negative or positive), but you can control how you think about YOU. Be comfortable in your own skin. Believe in yourself and not in how others see you. Like someone said, “Be proud of who you are and not ashamed of how someone else sees you”.
People who know who they are don’t waste their time complaining. They have tuned their minds to be positive no matter what. They always look for something to be grateful for. To them, the glass is never half empty; it is always half full. An attitude of gratitude will always create room for more things to be grateful for. This is a proven fact. But what surprises me most is not the fact that gratitude attracts more to be grateful for, but it is the fact that gratitude stirs an inner sense of fulfillment that is inexplicable. It is for this same reason that people who are always complaining seem unhappy and angry at everything they come across including the neighbor’s donkey. Here's the secret: The more you complain, the more you get more reasons to complain. Complaining gives birth to bitterness, resentment, anger, etc.  Stop complaining and start appreciating.
